What to Expect From a Microdermabrasion Treatment

Feb 16 2018

Signing up for your first treatment at a medical spa is often nerve wracking because it can be an unfamiliar experience, or you may not know what to expect. One of the treatments we offer at Qwella is our Microdermabrasion. You’ve probably heard of it before, but if you’ve never read into the details, we highly suggest you learn more about it!

What is Microdermabrasion?

The clinical definition of microdermabrasion is:

Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal younger, healthier-looking skin. – DocShop.com

Essentially, microdermabrasion is the process of creating tiny abrasions all over the surface of your skin to remove dirt, dead skin cells, and anything else off the top layer of skin. The small abrasions encourage the growth of new skin and can help pores tighten.

What to Expect

Before you sign up for a microdermabrasion treatment with Qwella Med Spa, you should give us a call to talk over your needs. Depending on your skin type, our specialists will be able to help determine if Microdermabrasion is correct for you. People who are typically in need of this treatment are men and women with fine lines, large pores, and blackheads, but this treatment is suitable for almost all skin types and conditions.

The Actual Procedure

When you arrive for your treatment, ensure you are a little early so you can fill out some quick paperwork to determine your skin type and health. Then one of our specialists will take you to your private room where they will make sure your comfortable with a warm blanket and bed. Feel free to ask any questions along the way!

The process of the treatment includes these steps:

  1. First, we’ll use a facial cleanser to remove any makeup or dirt.
  2. The actual microdermabrasion. This can take about 5-10 minutes to cover the entire face. You’ll feel a slight sucking and scratching feeling from our machine.
  3. Here we use another cleanser to remove the excess dead skin.
  4. We put a moisturizer all over your face to help your skin heal.
  5. We let you relax with the facial and a humidifier to help open those pores and heal your skin.
  6. We clean the product off and then you’re all done!

Aftercare

There is little to no recovery time after the treatment. You may be a little red, but there should be no more side effects. The most important thing to remember is that you just had your skin sanded and polished: so keep your hands off! Touching your face can introduce bacteria and germs to your tender skin.

Book Your Appointment

If you visit our microdermabrasion page, you can read more about what types of skin benefit from this procedure, pre and post-care of your facial skin, and how you will feel. We recommend that you receive 4-6 weekly treatments for full effectiveness. This treatment is amazing and is a very easy way to improve your skin dramatically!
