How To Treat and Reduce Wrinkles
A question that many people in their 30-50’s begin to ask is: “how do I treat my wrinkly skin?” Or “how to prevent wrinkly skin?” etc. We all get to the point where we begin to wonder why our bodies are beginning to look different, and perhaps not in a way that we appreciate. This is completely normal. Everyone gets wrinkles eventually, and they make you no less beautiful. But before you begin to panic about your newfound wrinkles, read on to discover a few ways you can reduce wrinkles on your face and body.
Treating Existing Wrinkles
If you’ve hit that point in your life where you don’t feel quite as confident as you used to, we can help. No one can really prevent wrinkles entirely, so don’t feel bad thinking that you’ve somehow failed. There are a few methods you can employ in order to treat wrinkles that you already have, many of which Qwella Med Spa is licensed and qualified to administer.
A Few Tricks
Some of the best ways to treat existing wrinkles are things you might not have considered. Though the best method is always to try to prevent wrinkles before they start.
- Sleeping on your back – sleeping on your back prevents your facial skin from folding in a certain way for hours at a time. If you don’t already sleep mostly on your back, see if you can train yourself.
- Vitamin C – eating and applying Vitamin C directly to your face are both beneficial. Vitamin C improves collagen synthesis, which improves your skin’s ability to regenerate. You can find Vitamin C in the form of creams, fruits, and most of all rose hips.
- Moisturize – moisturizing provides a plumpness to skin that can help fill in wrinkles. Make sure you are using a face-specific moisturizer.
Eating healthy, staying out of the sun, and getting enough sleep can help reduce existing wrinkles, it’s true. But if you’re looking for something a little more clinical and long-term, here are a few treatments you can receive from a medical spa that treat wrinkles specifically.
Botox – You’ve heard of Botox as the leader in anti-aging treatment, we’re sure. Before you run away from images of botched celebrity Botox jobs, consider how it works. Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. Botox is injected through small needles in the affected area, and downtime is minimal.
Restylane – Restylane is a transparent FDA-approved hyaluronic acid gel used to smooth facial lines and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced by the body, and the Restylane injectable simply encourages the production of the acid to reduce wrinkles.
Juvederm – Juvederm is an FDA-approved filler used to smooth mild to moderate facial lines, plump up lips, and reduce acne scarring. It can also be used to fill under eye hollows, enhance cheek volume, and reduce wrinkles on the hands.
Radiesse – Radiesse is an FDA-approved injectable gel that temporarily adds volume to the face to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. It can also be used to volumize the hands. This treatment lasts up to 18 months.
Sculptra – As you age, the natural collagen in your face begins to degenerate. Sculptra is designed to replace that collagen and stimulate natural plumping in your face.
Venus Viva – A hand-held device sends energy below the surface of the skin, which heats the cells and stimulates the body’s natural collagen production.
Prevent Future Wrinkles
Though it’s impossible to prevent every wrinkle, the best method to reducing future wrinkles is to take preventative action in the form of some of the above treatments. Additionally, it might be time to adjust your skin routine. Here is what we have found to be the best skin routine to prevent future wrinkling.
- Wear sunscreen with the minimum of SPF 30.
- Always remove makeup before sleeping.
- Moisturize with a face lotion.
- Use (light) eye creams at night.
- Eat foods rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C.
- Get enough sleep.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Get occasional facials (don’t overdo this).
You should always be trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Your skin will thank you down the road. And if you’ve already reached the point where you feel your wrinkles are untreatable, don’t give up. Consider visiting with an esthitician and finding out what treatment will be best for you, and be diligent about keeping up on your treatments.
