Laser Vein Treatment

Spider veins are small visible veins often found in the face, legs, and ankles. These unwanted veins can come in a variety of forms, but are often found grouped around a central point or have a maze-like appearance. Laser vein treatment is usually the best treatment option when veins are relatively small and near the surface of the skin. During the procedure an intense light (laser) is place over the unwanted spider veins and blood vessels. The laser's heat causes the blood in the spider veins to gather, clot, and eventually shrink and disappear. Spider veins are not needed in circulation, and no harm to the surrounding tissues is done during this procedure.

Spider veins can result from a number of factors. Many women develop spider veins during pregnancy. Genetics, alcohol use, and various activities that stress the blood vessels in the legs (activities usually involve long intervals of standing or sitting) are all factors that can lead to or contribute to the development of spider veins.

Spider veins that are not treated can become much larger, more noticeable, and more uncomfortable. Laser vein treatment involves a relatively small amount of pain. This pain is often described as the 'snapping of a rubber band on the skin' . Side effects are very minor, and usually involve redness or inflammation of the treated area. Laser vein removal can last from 20 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the treatment area. No recovery time is needed after laser vein treatment.
